About the Author
Roger Priddy left school at 16 with just one qualification―in art. He went to Berkshire College of Art and Design and trained as an illustrator. His first job in children's books was working with the publisher Peter Usborne, at Usborne Publishing, and then he worked with Peter Kindersley at Dorling Kindersley, where he spent 16 years. Priddy became Creative Director of DK's Children's Division and was Managing Director of the children's mass market publisher Funfax when it was acquired by DK. In 2000, he created Priddy Books with John Sargent at St Martin's Press to create innovative and imaginative titles for children, from first books for babies through early reference titles for older children. Since then, over 30 million copies of Roger's 200 plus books have sold worldwide, with five of his books―My Big Animal, My Big Truck, Happy Baby Words, Happy Baby Colors and Puppy and Friends―each selling over one million copies. This book was one of my kid's favorites when she was an infant and younger toddler. Since it uses photographs instead of drawings, I felt it helped her better conceptualize what things are. The book is small which is great for small hands to practice holding books and turning pages on their own. There a variety of pictures on each page but no so many that it becomes overwhelming. We went through the book describing what things are, their size and color. When she was a bit more responsive, we would ask her "Where is the car?" or "Can you find something green?" This game delighted her. Eventually, as she progressed in her speech she would bring the book and tell us the names of the picture.it's a simple book but will definitely be a valuable learning tool from infancy to early toddler days.
I feel like this book was false advertisement! It only says trucks on the cover, which is all I expected, but then going further into the book, they get into boats and air balloons, like what!? My three year old loves it either way, but I feel as if they shouldn't have said TRUCKS, when it would be including other things.
I like the idea of this book however I am very disappointed by the lack of thought and consideration by the author. I am attaching pictures for your consideration. The author's atypical choices in choosing and naming some of these vehicles is distracting and actually tends to disrupt learning in some cases.The pictures are good and my Grandson does enjoy them so I let him name the vehicle and if his description is accurate...We go with it rather than try to match the authors word choice.
We own two other "first 100" books and my toddler loves them. We bought this one for him because he loves trucks and while he likes it, it's definitely my least favorite. First, only about half the book is actually trucks-the rest are other vehicles (bikes, tractors, boats, airplanes-which is fine, but misleading) and even then they're obviously struggling because they resort to "big car" (actually a minivan) and "small car" although the small car is zoomed in and is taller than any other car on the page so in no way helps teach big/small. They repeat many vehicles from one page to the next, too. I also wish there was more consistency between books-in one book it's a semi truck, but they call it a big rig on all the pages it's on in this one. If I had seen it before I bought it I would have passed on this one.
got this for my nephew. he is in love with trucks right now. i thought it was a book with a 100 different types of trucks but it also has airplanes and boats which are a nice addition. i just did not read the 100 trucks AND things that go. so when my nephew was going through the book i was a little confused at first why they included the other modes of transportations. but now i get it since i didnt pay attention to the "and things that go" part of the title. other than that its a great book
Are you wondering what types of trucks there are? Look no further, this book has them all! And then some. Definitely some of these "trucks" are questionable as being listed as trucks. It may mislead you into thinking a hot air balloon is a truck. Be careful when using this as a learning tool for your kids or not so smart friends. However, I know a 2 year old and an 18 month old that read this book multiple times a day, so it's a great deal for the money and keeps kids occupado. Highly recommend, just beware of the ending!
I like these books. Our son is currently obsessed with motor vehicles. Trucks are his favorite of the things that move and go. This odd little book gives him the confidence he needs to be able to point out all sorts of trucks. It struck my parents and I as odd that they would include a bombsquad truck in such a book, but I suppose he has to learn about the struggle between the righteous are of law enforcement and the morally depraved Uncle Ted K. types sometime. What better way to introduce it to him? How soon is now?
I am so saddened by this book. Why in a baby board book do they have to include bomb squad truck? This world is so scary...cant they just be babies for a little while? I hate that I will have to explain this to my 1 and 5 year old. I am throwing this in the garbage because it isn't worth the effort to send back. I will no longer buy this companies books online because you don't know what you are going to get.
This is a great book for children who love trucks, tractors and other moving items. Even though the book is called first 100 trucks not all of the pictures are of trucks. Some are of tractors, ships, planes, motorcyles, etc. Even though the title is a little misleading, this is a fun book that your child will want to read over and over. The pictures are good quality and there are lots of colors in the book to help with teaching your child colors.
