I thought this was a useful book for my 6th grader to improve her English skills and get a better grade on her 6th grade SBA. She completed all the tests, although I had to 'encourage' her to do it. The book contains the tests and the answers to the tests. Each test probes a specific area, so you'll see your child's strengths/weaknesses. There were some things my child did not know, like the difference between 'inform' and 'explain'. So, that gave me the opportunity to discuss that with her. By doing the tests in this book, I was also able to observe my child's test-taking habits. Sometimes, she guessed. That gave me an opportunity to stress, try on every question.
I bought this book because it said it came with a free online student access for one whole class. However, when I tried to access the online class it give me major issues. When I called customer, no one EVER picked up the phone. Chat is only available at certain times during the day, and when I emailed them, I would get a response two-3 days later. Therefore, I was unable to get my students online to take the practice tests in the book.
Purchase the test prep for my 6th grade son, very easy to apply, however I wish the section prep came with a significant amount of real test questions in regard to the topic covered to reinforce the teaching. Otherwise it’s a good prep that others may benefit from. The book contains many test skills anyone can really learn from!
It's really useful for SBAC prep. Online access is a plus.
Also bought Common Core English. Both that book and SBAC Test Prep are published in 2016 by Lumos Learning but with different title and different cover page. However, the content is exactly the same. I essentially bough the same book twice. Tricky way to mislead the customer.
